One of the best ways to improve your
overall health and reduce calories is to make good, healthy eating
choices. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the
Department of Agriculture Dietary Guidelines suggest that you limit
your intake of fat, saturated fat and cholesterol. They recommend
plenty of fruits, vegetables, and grain products.
The FDAs website outlines the number of serving
from the Food Pyramid: 1
6-11 servings of bread, cereal, pasta, rice, or
other grain products (the base of the pyramid);
3-5 servings of vegetables and 2-4 servings of
fruits,
2-3 servings of dairy products and 2-3 servings
of meat or other protein,
only sparing selections from fats and sweets (the
tip of the pyramid).
An easy way to reduce your calorie intake is to
eat smaller portions, combining servings from all tiers of the Food
Pyramid. For example, instead of eating two bowl of cereal with
milk, try one bowl and an unbuttered muffin or toast. Making changes
at every meal can really add up to calorie savings.
